You weren’t going to avoid all the bad things that come with A.I. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman believes there will be many “bad things” when it comes to A.I. technology.

During an appearance on the Decoded Podcast from Politico Sam Altman explained why we should expect these “bad things”. He stated that we will never have no scams no hacking or no misuse of technology if we want to allow humans to utilize these programs. There will always be pros and cons but Altman claims the pros will outweigh the cons by “orders of magnitude” so regulations shouldn’t hold back progress.

Many did not agree with this statement.

Backlash From Critics

Many tech experts believe that Altman is trying to say suck it up so rich men can profit off of technology. Governor of Florida Ron Desantis said he believes we should not allow these few companies to regulate our world and the state has taken steps to stop OpenAI from producing more AI without proper precautions.

Not only has there been backlash from outside sources but within OpenAI as well.

Members Leaving Over Safety

Two prominent members of the safety team left OpenAI recently stating that they felt the company was pushing to release more products than what was safe. During the summer there were stories of AI breaking free from its test area and lying to researchers. They even attempted to snoop through third party sites and government databases.

Clash With Former Colleagues

When asked about his former colleague Elon Musk,Altman called him a bully. He went on to say “sometimes you have to hit a bully in the face.“

So far Washington has decided to let these companies figure it out on their own. After many experts stated that we could end up with dangerous AI the White house has agreed to allow them to regulate themselves.

Only time will tell if these “bad things” that Altman mentioned will happen or if we will see more positives than negatives from AI.
