This is an interesting release, one of the biggest one, loaded with new features and enhancements that get the plugin closer to the end state, and getting ready to move to version 1.0,0, if you want to know what happened between the last Adobe Exchange release and this one, read the previous release notes here
What’s changed in this release
Bug Fixes
- Text frames that overflow in InDesign now hide their extra text in the export too, ending on a whole line instead of spilling onto the objects below.
- Fixed large single characters, like a big quote mark, disappearing in angled text frames, and stopped tightly spaced paragraphs from spilling past the bottom of their frame.
- Buttons set to Play from Navigation Point now start the movie at that point instead of at the beginning.
New Features or Enhancements
- New Flip Card feature: tag a two-state object and in the export it flips over in 3D when clicked, and flips back when clicked again.
- Choose whether the card flips horizontally (left to right) or vertically (top to bottom), and how fast.
- Links, buttons and pictures on the card still work when clicked, and keyboard readers can flip the card with Enter or Space.
- Readers who turn on reduced motion see the card change without the flip animation.
- An object can be a carousel or a flip card, not both. Tagging it as one removes the other.
- Tapping quickly on a flip card flips it each time instead of zooming the page.
- New Embed Fonts check: Embed fonts and its licensing notice now sit on their own tab in the export dialog.
- Font license check: when you tick Embed fonts, each font in the document is listed with a verdict: OPEN, CHECK, NO, or ? when it can’t tell.
- License links: fonts that include a license web address show it as a link you can click to read the license.
- Export log: when Embed fonts is on, the log lists any font whose license needs a look.
- SEO New “Page files” option (Misc tab): export each page as its own web page (
page-5.html) instead of oneindex.html, so search engines can find and link to every page.- New “Site address” option (Misc tab): enter where the export will be published to get proper page addresses for search engines and a
sitemap.xml. - Options that can’t work with “One file per page” are switched off for you: Scrolling and “Back button turns pages” are greyed out, and Curl leaves the Page turn list (it comes back when you switch to a single file).
- Each page gets its own title and description from its heading and text, so search results show the right page.
- Page turns between files slide or fade like before when the export is on a website, and old
#page-5links still work.
- New “Site address” option (Misc tab): enter where the export will be published to get proper page addresses for search engines and a
- New Forms: InDesign text fields, combo boxes, list boxes, check boxes and radio buttons now export as real form fields that readers can fill in.
- Buttons set to Go To URL open their link when clicked.
- Buttons set to Submit Form, Clear Form or Print Form now work. Submit checks that required fields are filled in first.
- A frame converted to a form field no longer shows up as an extra empty box.
- Clicking or tapping a form field no longer turns the page by accident.
- Submit Form buttons send in the background, so readers stay in the magazine.
- Readers see a message saying whether the form was sent, failed, or they’re offline.
- If the form service sends back an error (like “Email is invalid”), the reader sees it, and their answers are kept so they can fix them.
- The submit button dims while sending, so a double click can’t send the form twice.
- Fields clear automatically after a successful send.
- Check boxes and radio buttons show your own tick and dot artwork from InDesign instead of the browser’s default style.
- New Pan & Zoom feature: tag a picture frame, and readers can drag the picture around inside it and zoom in up to 2×, 3× or 4×, or just pan.
- New menu item: PressTo5 › Interactive Elements › Pan & Zoom opens a screen in the panel for tagging frames and choosing options.
- Always fills the frame: readers can’t drag or zoom the picture far enough to leave part of the frame empty.
- Works with a mouse, trackpad, touch and keyboard: drag, pinch, double-tap or double-click, ctrl-scroll, and the arrow keys plus + and − all work.
- Optional hint: a small “drag to explore” icon sits over the frame until the reader first touches it.
- Resets on page turn: the picture goes back to your original crop when the reader leaves the page.
- Page turning isn’t affected: dragging inside the frame never turns the page.
- Doesn’t trap scrolling: in the Scrolling layout, scrolling up and down over a frame still scrolls the page until the reader zooms in, while sideways drags pan the picture.
- Sharper zoomed pictures: with Optimize images on, zoomable pictures keep extra resolution so zooming in doesn’t look blurry.
- Lightbox or Pan & Zoom, not both: tagging a frame for one removes the other.
- New Background Audio feature (PressTo5 > Media > Background Audio): choose an audio file to play behind the whole publication. You can set it to loop, set its volume and limit it to certain pages. Readers can mute it with a speaker button.
- Enhancement to Web Content now plays links to video files (MP4, WebM, MOV) in the page’s own player, loading only when the reader presses Play.
- Dropbox links are converted so their videos stream, and Google Drive links play in Drive’s own player.
- HLS stream links (.m3u8) still work but come with a warning that not every browser plays them, and formats no browser plays (AVI, WMV, MKV) ask you to convert to MP4.
- A YouTube or Vimeo link placed through InDesign’s Media panel (“Video from URL”) now exports as a working embed instead of a blank player.
- Video links with extra text on the end (like
?token=…) are now recognized correctly.
