I can’t say how excited we are to be so close to the end state for version 1.0.0, and this is very encouraging, we are spending a lot of time adding the new features and enhancements that are meant to help your workflows.
This is a Patreon supporters release.
What’s changed in this release
Bug Fixes
- Lines that were drawn from a rectangle (e.g. after deleting points or using the Scissors tool) disappearing from the export.
- Page numbers in master-page frames that cross from one page to the other showing the wrong page’s number.
- Optimize images now shrinks large JPEGs it used to skip and copy at full size, typically high-quality ones over about 10 megapixels.
- Animations set to “On Click (Self)” or “On Roll Over (Self)” now wait for a click or hover instead of playing as soon as the page loads.
- Objects that start invisible, such as Appear or Fade In, can now still be clicked to trigger their own animation.
- Fade In now fades the object in instead of making it disappear.
- Fixed paragraph rules (Rule Above/Below) covering their text: they now draw behind the text, as they do in InDesign.
- Fixed drop shadows disappearing on rotated rectangles.
- Fixed outlined text so the stroke only shows around the outside of each letter, with no stray lines inside letters like P, R and A.
- Fixed outline-only text, so letters like G and H get one clean outline with no stray lines inside them.
- Fixed text wrap in multi-column text frames, so text in later columns now flows around objects instead of running underneath them.
New Features or Enhancements
- New: Convert to WebP. An option under Optimize images that saves pictures as WebP, so they’re smaller and pages load faster. Lightbox images are converted too.
- New Image Sequence feature: place one numbered picture, and readers can drag through the full series in the export as a 360° spin or frame-by-frame animation, or watch it play on its own.
- New: Buttons now respond to roll over, roll off, click, release, focus and blur, not just clicks.
- A button can run several actions, in the same order as the Buttons panel.
- Buttons now show their Rollover and Click looks as the pointer moves over and presses them.
- These actions now work: Go to Next / Previous / First / Last Page, Go to Page, Show/Hide Buttons and Forms, and Hidden Until Triggered.
- Buttons can now play, pause, resume, reverse and stop animations, including Reverse on Roll Off.
- Animations started by a button no longer play when the page loads.
- Buttons work from the keyboard: Tab moves to them, and Enter or Space presses them.
- On phones and tablets, tapping a hover-only hotspot shows its content, and tapping anywhere else hides it.
- When a page leaves the screen, its buttons and anything they showed or hid go back to how they started.
- New Analytics tab in the export options: send page views and time on page to Google Analytics 4, Plausible or your own web address. The settings are saved with the document.
- Optional events: you can also track outbound link clicks, PDF downloads, movies and sounds, form submissions, searches, shares and readers reaching the last page.
- Reader privacy: a built-in consent banner or a hook for your site’s own consent tool, respect for Do Not Track, and your local previews aren’t counted.
- New Scroll Effects tool (PressTo5 › Interactive Elements › Scroll Effects) adds three effects that work in the Scrolling layout.
- Sticky: an object scrolls with its page, holds at the top of the window while the page passes, then lets go at the page bottom.
- Parallax: an object drifts slower or faster than its page, or its picture moves inside its frame for a sense of depth. The picture is enlarged just enough that the frame’s edges never show.
- Fixed: an object stays put in the window while the pages scroll under it, over its own page only or from its page to the end.
- Works on phones too: all three effects hold steady when pages are scaled down to fit a small screen.
- Pages layout is unaffected: tagged objects stay where you placed them, and the export log explains why.
- New “Offline app” option (Misc tab): readers can install the publication like an app and read it without a connection once they’ve opened it online.
- App name and short name: set the name shown when installing and under the home-screen icon. Blank uses the page title, and both are saved with the document.
- App icons made from the first page: generated automatically, on the theme’s background color.
- “New version available” bar: after you re-export, readers get a one-click Reload to see the update.
- Videos, sounds and the PDF stay online-only: this keeps what readers store on their device small.
- Export log notes: it reports how much is kept offline, warns if it’s large (over 100 MB), and suggests Embed fonts so the type also works offline.
