More testing, more work, more exports, and the plugin keeps moving forward, thank you for the feedback.

This release includes a number of new features, it has been a lot of work, but we’re getting ready for the final push.

This as Patreon supporter only release, the next release that will make it to the Adobe Marketplace will be version 0.5.3, if you’re not a Patreon supporter, you’ll get all these fixes and features in this release.

What’s changed in this release

Bug fixes

  • Master-page objects that cross the fold of a two-page master (images, shapes and backgrounds) not showing up in the export on the page they extend onto, now show as intended.
  • Fixed slanted image frames and shapes showing up as thin rotated lines in the export instead of their real shape.
  • Images rotated inside their frames now export rotated instead of upright and cropped.
  • Paragraph background colors (Paragraph Shading) now show up behind the text in exported pages.
  • Fixed text wrap in multi-column text frames: text now flows correctly around grouped objects and respects the frame’s inset spacing.
  • Multi-column text frames now let a paragraph continue from one column into the next, as in InDesign, instead of jumping whole to a new column and creating an extra column.
  • Fixed an issue where a colored drop cap’s color was applied to the whole paragraph. Only the drop cap letter now uses its own color, and the rest of the text keeps its original color.
  • Fixed multi-column text frames so drop caps no longer disappear, narrow fonts like Arial Narrow keep their width, and text breaks between columns the way InDesign does.
  • InDesign movies and sounds now export as real video and audio players, with your poster frame, loop and controller settings.
    • Media set to “Play on Page Load” plays when the reader reaches its page and stops when they leave. If the browser blocks sound, playback starts muted or waits for the reader’s first click.
    • Buttons that play, pause or stop a movie or sound now work, and dragging a video’s scrubber no longer turns the page.
  • Quotation marks in a description no longer break the page’s search information.

New features or enhancements

  • Page navigator: click the page counter to browse thumbnails of every page, as a strip or a full grid.
  • Direct page links: share #page-5 to send someone straight to page 5.
  • Working page links: links in your InDesign document that point to another page now work in the export.
  • Scrolling text
    • Scrolling text boxes now have a slim scrollbar that takes the text’s color, so it matches your design.
    • The text fades out gently at the top or bottom edge to show there’s more to read.
    • The up and down arrow keys scroll the text box instead of turning the page.
    • Scrolling a text box on a phone or tablet no longer turns the page by accident.
    • You can click into a text box to select its text or drag its scrollbar without turning the page.
    • Scrolling to the end of a text box no longer carries on to the page behind it.
  • Zoom and pan: readers can pinch or double-tap to zoom into a page, then drag to move around it, so small landscape pages are easy to read on phones.
  • Fullscreen button: an optional button (on by default) lets readers fill the screen with the publication.
  • Page turns: you can choose how pages change when exporting. The choices are slide (the default), fade or a page curl.
  • Two-page spreads: on wide screens, facing pages now show side by side like an open magazine, and phones still show one page at a time.
    • Switches as the screen changes: resizing the window or turning a tablet swaps between spreads and single pages without losing your place.
    • Cover on its own: the first page shows alone on the right, the way a printed magazine opens.
    • Turning and navigation: arrows, swipes and keys move a whole spread at a time, the counter reads “2–3 / 7”, and links to any page open the spread that contains it.
  • SEO Enhancements
    • Page titles now come from the document’s File Info title when the title box is blank, and no longer end in “.indd”.
    • Exported pages include the File Info description, author and keywords so search engines can use them.
    • Shared links show a proper title and description on social media and in messaging apps.
    • The page’s language now matches the document’s language instead of always being English.
    • The main content is marked as the page’s main area so search engines know where to look.
    • The export log suggests adding a description in File Info when the document has none.
