This is our Adobe Marketplace release, it includes all the fixes, features and enhancements of version 0.5.0, you can read about it here.
This is a small release, of course it includes new features, fixes and enhancements, you can read about all the changes below, so go get it in the Adobe Marketplace as soon as version 0.5.3 is listed (it could take a few days) or from our Patreon page.
What’s changed in this release
Bug Fixes
- Extra spaces in text are now kept on export, so words stay in the positions InDesign gave them.
- Single-line text frames with loose leading now start their text at the top of the frame, like InDesign, instead of sitting half a line lower and overlapping what’s below.
- Two linked images with the same file name in different folders no longer overwrite each other in the export — each now gets its own copy, so both frames show the right picture.
- The same fix covers linked movies and sounds, which share that folder.
- Images whose names don’t clash keep exactly the names they always had, so existing exports are unchanged.
- The panel’s Viewer options now fold into a single line, with a summary of what’s switched on, so the panel takes far less room.
- Images and posters sharing a file name across different folders no longer clobber each other in the export — each one now gets a unique name that the page actually points at.
- InDesign’s Wave, Bounce and Spring animations now actually wave, bounce and spring in the exported page, instead of sliding in a straight line.
- Text set around shapes now exports, copy attached with the Type on a Path tool life on a separate object that the extractor never read, so it was missing from the export entirely.
- Text typed inside a shape now exports, an oval or polygon you click into with the Type tool keeps its original object type, so its copy was being skipped too.
- Circular text reads the right way round; it was running backwards and upside down; it now follows the curve in the direction InDesign draws it.
- Circular text starts in the right place; it was landing half a turn off; it now sits exactly where InDesign puts it.
- HSB (and Lab) swatches were being silently dropped because the color converter only understood RGB and CMYK.
New Features or Enhancements
- New Search option in the panel (off by default) adds a search button to the exported publication.
- Readers can search the text of every page and go straight to any page that has a match.
- Matches are highlighted in the results list and on the page itself.
- Searches ignore upper/lower case and accents, so “cafe” finds “Café”.
- Keyboard shortcuts no longer turn pages or switch fullscreen while you’re typing in a text field.
- Smaller images — each placed JPEG and PNG is now resized to twice the size it’s actually shown at, so print-resolution artwork no longer ships at print resolution.
- New “Optimize images” checkbox in the panel, on by default — switch it off to export the original files untouched.
- Faster first load — pages load their pictures as the reader nears them instead of all of them at once (2 images fetched on open instead of 5).
- Share button in the viewer: hands a reader a link straight to the page they’re on, via the phone’s share sheet or the clipboard.
- PDF download option: InDesign exports a PDF alongside the web pages and the viewer gets a download button for it.
